A large part of its income is devoted to supporting State-of-the-Art research and training of researchers and physicians. In addition to calls for projects that it develops, DigestScience organizes high-level scientific events gathering the most renowned world experts on innovative themes. These congresses are often an opportunity for exchanges of views and statements in different areas of research, from prevention to diagnosis and treatments.

Thus, last October 23d, 2009 in Lille, in collaboration with the ECCO group (European Crohn ' s and Colitis Organisation), DigestScience has organized a workshop entitled: “Microbial, environmental and genetic interactions in the origin of Crohn's disease”. Indeed, although advances have been recently made, the cause(s) of this disease remain(s) to date unknown. The most probable hypothesis is a malfunction of the digestive immune system in response to a disordered intestinal flora under the influence of genetic and environmental factors.

What happens between exposure to a pathogenic agent and the development of the disease? Can we consider one day a prevention of these diseases? The most renowned European experts in the field of epidemiology of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD's) have met to state about the latest advances in this area and consider implementing an innovative European study.

November 20th, 2009, in Lille: "Cutting edge of cell therapy in IBD's”. Cell therapy is one of the major advances in care of patients suffering from Crohn's disease. Within this framework, DigestScience will gather for the first time in the world, international experts involved in this new therapeutic strategy. Further to a first pre clinical session, this workshop will continue with a regulatory aspect and especially with the opinion of the AFSSAPS and the FDA ; The afternoon will be dedicated to different current clinical assays in Crohn's disease.
